Performance and Fuel Efficiency

The Equinox has a powerful 1.5L turbo 4-cylinder engine, delivering 175 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque. 8-speed automatic transmission with standard AWD puts you in control of a smooth ride. With an estimated fuel economy of 24 MPG city / 29 MPG highway, the Equinox is both fun to drive and practical.

The CX-5 has a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine under the hood for 187 hp and 186 lb-ft torque. Featuring a 6-speed automatic transmission with standard AWD and an estimated 23 MPG city / 29 MPG highway, the CX-5 is also a practical option.

In short, both the Equinox and CX-5 are solid performers in most environments.

Driver Assist and Safety Features

The Chevy Equinox has an impressive package of safety features. Standard driver-assistance features include HD rear vision camera, forward collision alert, safety alert seat, rear park assist, automatic emergency braking, blind zone steering assist, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, and more.

The Mazda CX-5 also delivers when considering safety. The CX-5 comes with a driver assist package that includes blind spot monitoring, dynamic stability control, radar cruise control with stop & go, lane-keep assist, and more.

Interior and Infotainment

If you like a comfortable interior that is well-equipped but not distracting, you’ll probably like the Equinox. Step inside to discover an 8-way power driver seat, heated front seats and steering wheel, wireless charging, dual-zone automatic climate control, and plenty more comforts. The infotainment system features 6-speaker audio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, an 11.3-inch advanced color LCD display with Google built-in, and everything you need to feel at home behind the wheel.

We have no major complaints about the CX-5’s interior. With an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, leather trim, power sliding-glass moonroof, and dual-zone automatic climate control, the cabin is both comfortable and functional. 6-speaker audio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, a 10.25-inch color display and more add up to a nice enough infotainment setup.

Conclusion

Chevrolet is known for iconic American styling, craftsmanship, value, and power. The 2025 Equinox lives up to the reputation. The 2025 Mazda CX-5 is also a great choice. You can’t go wrong with either, but in our opinion, the Chevy Equinox takes the win.
